The World’s Largest Fancy Black Diamond to be auctioned at Sotheby’s in February 2022

A 555.55 cts natural fancy black diamond, believed to have come from outer space, will be auctioned at no reserve at Sotheby’s London on February 3, 2022. The black diamond, named “The Enigma,” is extremely rare, and is the largest faceted gemstone ever appear at any kind of auction, and the world’s largest natural black diamond, said Sotheby’s. It was listed in the 2006 Guinness Book of World Records as “The world’s largest cut diamond”. The formation of the natural black diamond with this enormous size remains a mystery, but Sotheby’s experts believed it was formed in a meteorite impact, or a diamond-bearing asteroid that collided with Earth. The auction house expects the diamond to be sold at least £5 million (HKD $53 million). Cryptocurrency will be accepted as a form of payment on the diamond, reflecting that the cryptocurrency has started to be recognized in the world of physical art and objects.
