The 11.15ct Williamson Pink Star Diamond – New World Auction Record

The Williamson Pink Star Diamond, weighted 11.15cts with Fancy Vivid Pink and internal flawless, auctioned by the Sotheby’s Hong Kong on 7th October 2022. It fetched HKD 453.2 million (US $57.7 million) and set a world auction record price for the highest price per carat for any diamond or gemstones. It is also the second-largest internally flawless, fancy vivid pink diamond weighting over 10 carats to ever appear at auction.

Named after another pink diamond ‘Williamson’ that have been given to Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding gift in 1947 by the Canadian Geologist Dr. John Thoburn Williamson, this Williamson pink star also yielded in the same mine as ‘Williamson’ stone, the Williamson mine in Mwadui, Tanzania. It is one of the oldest diamond mine and famous for producing pink diamonds that often describe as “bubblegum pink”.
