Rare Fancy Orangy Red Diamond appears at Heritage Auction

A 1.21-ct Fancy Orangy Red Diamond appears in Heritage Auctions for its Sept. 29 Fall Fine Jewelry Signature-Auction. It is estimated around $100,000-$150,000 USD. According to Heritage Auctions’ executive director of fine jewelry, “This gem is one of only a few diamonds to display enough saturation and intensity to be graded as a true red.”

Traditionally diamonds are perceived as white or colorless, but they also occur in a variety of color, such as yellow, brown, pink, blue or black. Among all colors occur in diamond, it is undoubtedly one color are considered to be the rarest among all, that is Red Diamond.

How rare is a red diamond? According to Gemological Institute of America (GIA), there was no any report issued during 1957 to 1987 had ever mentioned “Red” as the only color descriptive term. In the course of GIA’s research, they had only seen around 1,000 Fancy Red diamonds (both with or without modifiers). Red diamonds are usually found in small sizes and small quantity, any that are over 1 carat is even rare.
